Nancy Katherine Farmer

NANCY KATHERINE FARMER (nee Gagliano), aged 65 years, dearly beloved wife for 43 years to Roger L., dear mother of Joseph (Amber), loving grandmother of Annabelle, Gavin and Josie Deh, devoted daughter of Jessie (nee Trinca) and the late Joseph Gagliano Sr., cherished sister of Gina Pumphrey (Roger), Joseph Gagliano, Jr. (Sue), Therese Dragga (Mike), Patrick, Gregory (Keith) and John (Millie) Gagliano, treasured aunt and great-aunt to many.

Nancy was born on Oct. 15, 1954 in Cleveland and lived most of her life in northeastern Ohio. She graduated in June 1972 from Cleveland Heights High School and from St. Alexis School of Nursing in 1975. She held various nursing positions, worked in utilization review at Emerald Health Network, and eventually embarked on a second career as a realtor, helping many to become homeowners. Later, Nancy resided in Valley City. She enjoyed looking at the peaceful pond and beautiful trees she could see from her oversize living room window. She and Roger would host the large family at their home, and no matter how many people were there, even with some sitting all over the floor, a special time was shared by all. She loved pigs, pink, and daisies. She loved cooking for family, and she loved to laugh.

Roger and Nancy met while both were employed at St. John’s Hospital. They fell deeply in love and were married on May 28, 1977. She was the first of her generation to be married, and all the Aunties, Uncles, and cousins from Cleveland and upstate New York came to the wedding to dance, eat, visit, and celebrate! They had one son, Joe, and Nancy devoted much of her time caring for Roger and Joe, exemplifying what it means to be a supportive wife and nurturing mother.

Nancy was the eldest of seven children, embracing the responsibility of helping to raise her siblings, unselfishly helping her family as their different lives unfolded, and never asking for anything in return. She was a generous soul and a blanket of comfort.

Nancy and Roger made time to visit their beloved grandchildren in Lancaster- from Annabelle’s softball games, to Gavin and Josie’s basketball games, Nancy stayed involved in their lives in significant ways. She rarely had a conversation without mentioning one or more of her grandchildren.

With her “hock-knock” fist bumps, “little handshakes,” “hug-dances,” and “40 million kisses,” Nancy will be remembered as a funny, wonderful, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister,  aunt and friend. She will be remembered with joy by those fortunate enough to have been part of her life. Her warm smile and sincere laughter will remain with all who loved her.

Mass of Christian Burial Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (Gates Mills) at 11:30 AM. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory. Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Nancy at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd.) SUNDAY 1-4 AND 6-8 PM.
