Michaelene J. Garbo, 88, a longtime resident of Ashtabula passed away at her home in Sarasota Florida on June 15, 2011. Micki, as she was known, was married to Dr. Orville James Lighthizer. She was active in many civic organizations during the 40s, 50s and 60s in Ashtabula. She starred in several productions of the “Ashtabula Little Theatre” and was involved with the ‘Grey Ladies” a hospital volunteer group. She was a member of Mother of Sorrows Church.
After leaving Ashtabula, Micki moved to Willoughby Hills. She was a volunteer for the National Kidney Foundation for many years and assisted in their early efforts to encourage kidney transplants. In recent years she split her time between Willoughby Hills and Sarasota Florida.
Micki was born in Lincoln Nebraska. At an early age she moved to Kentucky with her father and attended Cardome Visitation Academy. Later she graduated from the University of Kentucky.
She was the beloved mother of O. James Lighthizer and Robert E. Lighthizer; the loving grandmother of James P. Lighthizer, Robert E.. Lighthizer Jr, Patrice Ladd, Meghan A. Lighthizer and Claire K. Lighthizer and the proud great-grandmother of James P. Lighthizer Jr, Van R. Lighthizer and Tara E. Ladd. She was the step-mother of Phillip Garbo and John R. Garbo Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband John R. Garbo and two grandsons Robert F. Lighthizer and Conor J. Lighthizer. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday June 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Noel Catholic Church. 35200 Chardon Rd., Willoughby Hills, 44094. She will be buried next to her father Emmet Bogan in All Souls Cemetery. The family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Micki at THE CHURCH ON TUESDAY MORNING 9:30 AM UNTIL TIME OF MASS. Arrangements entrusted to THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME.
