Michael A. Michael MD, 80, passed away peacefully at Menorah Park surrounded by his family on April 11, 2016, after struggling for many years with Parkinson/ Lewy Body disease.
Beloved husband for 63 years of Mary C. (nee Clarke), father of Michael Scott (deceased), Kathleen Weber (Michael Lake), Kara Freeman (Dr. David), Maura Shibley, Christopher Michael, and Dr. Erin Hillard (Dr. Bradley). Proud grandfather of: Sarah Young (William), Brian Weber (Christie), Robert Weber, Olivia, Timothy, and Christopher Freeman, David and Adam Shibley, Morgan, Mary Madison, and Brynn Hillard, and great grandfather of Luke Young.
Michael enjoyed an affectionate relationship with his sons in law, Grant Weber and Jeffrey Shibley.
He enjoyed a close and loving relationship with his sisters and brothers in law, David and Sheila Santoro and Bill and Terry Reid, and Patrick B. Clarke (deceased).
He was a devoted uncle to Patrick M. Clarke (deceased), Deborah Wenderoth (Ron), Kathleen Poling (Dale), Colleen Schlickert (deceased) (Ron); Sheila Ann Hutchinson (Eric), David L Santoro (deceased), Laura DeMart (Jon), Daniel Santoro (Gabriella); Bill Reid Jr. (Tina), Shawna Roche (Shawn), John Reid (Wendy Tate), Angela Worgull (Jason). He was a treasured great uncle to many grand nieces and nephews.
Dr. Michael graduated from Case Western Reserve University and received his medical degree from The Ohio State University. He completed his pediatric residency at The Childrens Hospital in Columbus Ohio. He also served in the military and was Chief of the Department of Pediatrics at Lockbourne Air Force Base. In 1967 he joined the pediatric practice of Dr Earl Smith and Dr Leonard P. Rome both distinguished pediatricians affiliated with Mt. Sinai Hospitals. There was mutual respect and friendship in this practice which became the strong foundation of the ever changing yet extremely well respected pediatric group. Dr. Michael became a senior partner in a career which spanned 40 years caring for children.
He was part of the clinical faculty of Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital serving as associate clinical professor and chairman. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics. He served as a board member on the Cleveland Poison Control and later, chairman of the Ohio Chapter Accident and Poison prevention committee. He was secretary- treasurer of the Cleveland Allergy Society. He was board member of University Primary Care Physicians Advisory Board and he chaired the UPCP Pediatric committee as well. He served as president of Northern Ohio Pediatrics Association. He received the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland clinician of the year award.
He will be remembered by family, friends and the thousands of patients who knew and loved him as a generous, thoughtful and caring individual. Michael enjoyed fishing, OSU sports, and card playing. He loved the Cavs, traveling and Disney vacations. He was a master joke teller and loved to dance. Michael loved life and was a great family man that will be greatly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday April 16, 2016 at 10 am at the Church of the Resurrection, 32001 Cannon Rd., Solon, Ohio, 44139. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Michael at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just east of Green Rd.) FRIDAY 2-4 pm and 5-8 pm.
