Max John Hofer

MAX JOHN HOFER age 96, beloved husband for 72 years of Joan (nee Kurtzman); loving father of John “Curtis” (wife Kathy), Mark (wife Pam), and Susan Myers (husband James deceased)( fiancé Angelo SantaMaria); devoted grandfather of Sara Ross (husband Andrew), Mark II (wife Kristy), Heather, Matthew (wife Anna), Michael (Chelsea), and Zack Whyel; dear great-grandfather of Matthew, Caitlin, Sebastian, Georgiana “Gigi”, Hikaru, and Akemi; cherished son of the late Max and Hildegard (nee Bauer); dearest brother of David (wife Helen) and the late Dorothy (husband Walter); dear uncle and great-uncle of many. Max is survived by his canine companions Blaze, Buster, Elsa, and Nicholas.

Max was born in Minnesota on May 29, 1927 to Max F. and Hildegard Hofer. He graduated from West High School before attending the University of Minnesota. He later graduated from the University of Michigan with an MBA. While Max enjoyed a career as a business owner and operator, he was adventurous in his free time; he was often found either in the air or on the water as a private pilot and crewmember of a sailboat, respectively. He had a tender place in his heart for animals, especially dogs, and enjoyed spending time with his beloved pets. He also enjoyed the company of people and is remembered for his social nature. He was a devoted husband and grandfather, and his presence will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Max to the Alzheimers Association. Celebration of Life Friday, June 23, 2023 at the funeral home at 10 AM. Burial following at Russel Township Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Max at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) THURSDAY 4-8 PM.
