MATILDA R. “TILLIE” (nee Kogan) FOGARTY age 95, beloved wife of the late Edward; loving mother of Peggy Saxon (husband Mike), Carolyn Fogarty (husband Brent Cannon), Jackie Florman and Laura Zucker (husband Chris); devoted grandmother of Kate Bencie (husband Anthony), Joseph Saxon (wife Lindsey), Morgan, Abby and Aaron Florman and Daniel, Edward and Ryan Zucker and great-grandmother of Isabella and Anthony Bencie, Jr. and Baby Boy Saxon due December 21; cherished daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (nee Reinault) Kogan; dearest sister of Louise Kogan and the late Eleanor Lilly, Genevieve Dimmock and Joseph and Stanley Kogan; dear aunt and great-aunt of many.
Tillie was born Matilda Kogan in Sharon, PA on January 20, 1926. She was the youngest of six children and moved to Cleveland as a young girl. Her grade school years were spent at St. Aloysius and she graduated from Collinwood High School in 1944. After graduation, she began her career at The Federal Reserve Bank in check retrieval. During lunch hours, she attended Mass at St. John’s Cathedral. On June 6, 1959, Tillie married the love of her life, Edward Fogarty, and they went on to have four daughters. After Eddie passed in 1996, Tillie relied on her faith and was happiest when spending time with her family. She loved attending her grandchildren’s events, creating a beautiful home, and going to daily Mass. She had a life long devotion to St. Anthony. She was an enthusiastic Cleveland Indians fan and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football fan. She looked forward to the daily word jumble in the Plain Dealer and loved sled riding up until the age of 90! Tillie was a woman of strong faith and will. She put everything in God’s hands and truly appreciated the simple things in life. She will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Tillie to the charity of your choice.
