MATILDA I. “MILLIE” BALAS (nee Ellis) age 84; beloved mother of Ronald F. Jr. (wife Karen), Robert (wife Elaine) and the late George (wife Eilene Toomey) and Les; devoted grandmother of Tara Issa, Christopher, Matthew, Megan (fiancé Robert Goodrich), Steve Toomey (wife Diane), Patrick Toomey (wife Kristina), Logan, and great-grandmother of 8; cherished daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Ellis; dearest sister of the late William and John Ellis; dear aunt and great-aunt of many.
Matilda was born on March 7, 1934 and passed away on July 24, 2018. She lived in Mayfield Heights for the past 25 years. Matilda graduated from John Adams High school in 1952 and went on to attend The Cleveland Institute of Music. She was an amazing homemaker who solely took care of her 4 boys. She also worked as a computer data entry specialist for a software company. Matilda had an unbelievable voice and had the privilege to sing for the Ohio Governor Frank Lausche and entertainer Jackie Gleason. She was an avid reader as well as an author, and wrote her own book, Lead Me, Guide Me The Spiritual Rapture of Heaven. Matilda had a passion for all types of music and loved to dance. She could be found on the dance floor of the Sheraton on any given disco night. Matilda also competed in numerous ballroom dance competitions. She truly was a dancing queen. You always knew what was on Matilda’s mind and she shared her thoughts with the “glass half-full” mentality. Matilda was outgoing, positive and gregarious. She will be remembered as living life to the fullest. Matilda will forever be missed.

Celebration of Life Service Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 1 PM at the FUNERAL HOME. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Millie at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) SATURDAY 11-1 PM. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory. Entombment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date.
