Mary Martinac

MARY MARTINAC (nee Mukavetz) age 95, beloved wife of the late Edward; loving mother of Margie Perscheid (husband Ralf), Ed (wife Patty), and Alan (wife Shari); adored grandmother of Adam (wife JoJo), Paul Perscheid, Emily Alos (husband Joey), Andrea Cota (husband Kyle), Kyle, Mara Perscheid and Alyssa (Owen) and great-grandmother of Lola, Brayden, Luca, and Finnley;  dearest sister of Helen Johnson (husband Don) and the late John Mukavetz (wife Mary, deceased); devoted aunt and cousin.

Mary was born Marija Mukavec in Špeharji, Slovenia on December 1st, 1923 and passed away on December 11, 2018 in Cleveland. Mary came to the United States with her family at the age of three with her parents John and Anna Mukavetz and brother John, all of whom predeceased her. She grew up in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula and was proud of her copper mining roots throughout her life. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio as a teen, graduated from East High and worked until her marriage to Edward Martinac. Ed and Mary built a family and large circle of friends in the Cleveland suburbs and were active members of their community. They loved to travel, and Mary was proud to have visited all fifty states, in addition to much of Canada, Jamaica and her homeland Slovenia. She built a warm, beautiful home for her family, who were the focus of her life’s work and affection. In fact, her vision of heaven was a little house where she could join those who had departed before her. Mary was also an outstanding cook and baker: Christmas will never be the same without her prime rib and potica. Those she leaves will never be the same either.

Prayers of Christian Burial, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1 PM at THE FUNERAL HOME. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Mary at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) SATURDAY 11 AM – 1 PM.
