Mary Lou McCahey

June 15, 1928 — April 19, 2025

Mary Lou was born in East Orange, New Jersey, but moved to Chicago, IL as a young child. She attended New Tier High School, graduated from mount Vernon College, and opened a nursery school after graduation. During WWII, she worked as a Candy Striper at Evanston Hospital and was active in the USO. Mary Lou married James B. McCahey Jr. in 1949, and was a proud mother of 6 children, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Mary Lou and Jim moved to Cleveland in 1973, where they were active members of the Community of St. Peters Church. She and Jim worked together for Catholic Charities Providence House and Malachi Center.

Mary Lou was joyful. She enjoyed time with family and friends and loved to entertain. During her life, Mary Lou was adventurous. She enjoyed traveling, playing golf and tennis, going skiing, and flying airplanes with the pilot's license she earned in the late 70's.

Mary Lou is survived by her children, J. Brady McCahey, Kathleen McCahey, Susan Clausen, Michael McCahey, Bill McCahey, and Cha McDaniel.

Burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Evanston, IL.
