MARY N. LIUZZO, age 96; cherished daughter of the late Anthony and Illuminata; dearest sister of the late Joseph (wife Shirlee, deceased), Carmella DeJohn (husband Deacon Ross Sr., deceased), Anthony, Mario (wife JoAnne) and Nancy Mazzone (husband Biagio, deceased); loving aunt of Ross Jr. & Patty DeJohn, Michael DeJohn, Robert & Lori DeJohn, Carla & Michael Prusak, Christine & James D’Alessandro, Michael & Joy Liuzzo, Jolene & Daniel Greve, Sherri & Joseph Greve, and the late Nancy Liuzzo; treasured great aunt of 18 and great-great aunt of 16; dear cousin and friend of many.
Born on April 15, 1928, Mary grew up in Cleveland on 154th Street and graduated from John Adams High School in 1947. With her intelligence and eye for detail, she quickly worked her way up to being an insurance underwriter with the Buckeye Union Casualty Company, retiring in 1989 after 42 successful years. Music brought joy to Mary’s life. She used her singing talent as a member of the St. Clare Church choir, and loved to listen to Big Band music, as well as Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack. Of course, music also leads to dancing and Mary never missed the chance to do the Cha Cha and Jitterbug. Along with being an avid bowler, she was also a fan of the Cleveland sports teams. Blessed with a green thumb, Mary was drawn outdoors to tend to her flourishing gardens, both flowers and vegetables. Home to Mary, since 2016, was Breckenridge Village of Willoughby and previously Mayfield Heights for 56 years. She would fondly recall traveling to Australia, her favorite location. With Italian heritage, Mary was deeply devoted to her family and Catholic faith. All of her nieces and nephews were her children and grandchildren. This loving and generous lady passed away unexpectedly, yet so peacefully, on October 27, 2024 and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Family wishes to thank all the caregivers at Ohio Living and Breckenridge Village for the loving care they gave Aunt Mary during the past eight years, while making her life so pleasant and comfortable.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mary’s memory to the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland, 6085 Parkland Boulevard, Suite 175, Mayfield Heights, OH 44124 or online at https://www.ursulinesisters.org/support-us/donate
