Mary Freer

December 30, 1947 — November 10, 2024

Mary A. Freer (nee Macha) (formerly Bilek)

Mary Freer, born December 30, 1947, passed away on November 10, 2024, at the age of 76. She dedicated her life to her family and was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, wife, and cherished friend to so many.

She was known for her outgoing, vivacious, caring, and generous spirit. As a young adult, she volunteered at Womankind and performed with the Bedford Community Theater. Once her children were of school age, she focused on her thirty-year administrative career for the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education. After retiring in 2012, she was eager to focus on other passions in life, including gardening, entertaining, and blossoming as an artist.

She took art lessons and was an amazingly talented artist. She produced pieces in various mediums, including oils, pastels, and watercolors, and her attention to detail was impeccable. She worked on and displayed her pieces in her home studio, many of which she gifted to her family and friends.

She cherished every moment spent with her family, as they were most important to her, and she to them. She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Frederick "Fred" Freer, III; sister, Bobbi Wirtz (Gary); children, Dan Bilek, Julie Bilek, Patrick Bilek (Carolyn), and Erin Stone; stepchildren, Frederick "Rick" Freer, IV (Tammy), Douglas Freer (Kelly), Elizabeth Freer (Mike Headley), and Tom Freer (Elaine); sister-in-law, Sandie Macha, brothers-in-law William Freer (Mary Martin) and John Freer (Cheryl). Mary is a beloved and cherished "Mimi" to eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marie Macha (nee Koenig); sisters Janet Macha, Susan Macha, and brother, Budd Macha; parents-in-law Frederick Freer, Jr. and Patricia Freer.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care received at The Enclave at Newell Creek, Hillcrest Hospital, and the David Simpson Hospice House.
