MARY ELLEN CASSESE (nee Murphy) age 91, beloved wife of the late Andrew; loving mother of Andrea Cassese-Weiner (husband Jeff), Patricia Kecskemety (husband William), Mark (wife Mary Sue), Kathleen, Terese Kvasnicka, and David (wife Mary Jo); devoted grandmother of Krista Kecskemety (husband Bob Rhoads), Nicole Lesinski (husband Dominick), Kara Wolcott (husband Paul), Daniel Kvasnicka (wife Aubrey), Anthony (wife Jackie), Andrea Newville (husband Scott), Andrew, and Kellie and great-grandmother of Vincent, Luca, Maria, McKinley, Lily, Cecilia, Rose, and Miles; cherished daughter of the late Clifford and Agnes (nee O’Malley) Murphy; dearest sister of the late Patricia Stupp (husband George, deceased), Agnes Stupp (husband Robert, deceased), and Clifford Murphy (wife Doris); dear sister-in-law, aunt and great-aunt of many.

Mary Ellen was born on May 17, 1930 in Cleveland and passed away on March 8, 2022. She was a resident of Willoughby for 64 years, formerly residing in East Cleveland. Mary Ellen graduated from West Tech High School in 1948 and received her bachelor’s degree from Fenn College. She worked as a math teacher for Mentor and Willoughby/Eastlake Schools. Mary Ellen was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was an avid reader and wine enthusiast, and enjoyed golf, bocce, horse racing, and puzzles, especially Sudoku. Mary Ellen was a huge Indians, Browns, Cavs and Buckeye fan. She will be remembered most as a social, loving, caring and determined woman who enjoyed life. Mary Ellen was outgoing, kind, patient, intelligent and strong. She will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mary Ellen to Math Corps Cleveland or Greater Cleveland Food Bank.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet for the Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 37932 Euclid Avenue, Willoughby, OH 44094. Burial following at Lake View Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Mary Ellen at THE CHURCH SATURDAY MORNING 9-10 AM.
