Mary DiGiovanni

Mary A. DiGiovanni (nee Bucci) was born November 3, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away at the age of 91 on May 16, 2024. Mary grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Italian immigrant parents (Olympia and Pietro) and second youngest in a family of five children. She graduated from John Adams High School and soon after met her husband of almost 48 years, Benedict "Ben" DiGiovanni, the eventual lifelong owner of the Big Bouquet Flower Shop. Following their marriage on November 6, 1954, the couple lived in Beachwood and had their two children Laura and Benedict, and eventually settled in Solon where they raised their family and lived the majority of their lives together. Mary worked as a court stenographer and librarian before devoting herself to the role of homemaker and mother. Mary was cherished by Ben. She was a devoted wife, mother, and proud and ever-present "Nana" to her six grandchildren. She was the fun-loving, dynamic matriarch of a devoted family and a vibrant, enthusiastic, energetic force. Mary's passion for cooking and celebrating with others was legendary and apparent throughout her life. Mary was a proud, second-generation Italian who loved to share the traditions of her heritage with her children and grandchildren. "Nana" taught them the art of Italian cooking and baking, passing down many of her beloved hand-written recipes. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed mystery novels, traveling with her family, crossword puzzles, her black poodles, and learning new things. She was not only a loving daughter, sister, spouse, mother, and grandmother but also a mother figure to many who were lucky enough to have her in their lives. She was a bright spot in people's lives and a truly kind, generous lady. Others gravitated to her warmth, cheer, compassion and everyone enjoyed spending time with her. Her positive impact on the many lives she touched will live on forever. The true embodiment of a long life well-lived, Mary will be cherished and missed every day. Mary is survived by her loving daughter Laura DiGiovanni MD (husband Daniel Garvey MD) and son Benedict DiGiovanni MD (wife Sue DiGiovanni MD) as well her six grandchildren Sarah Garvey MD (fiancée Theodore Tzanetos), Katherine Garvey MD, Matthew Garvey, Lauren DiGiovanni, Grace DiGiovanni, and Benedict DiGiovanni. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Benedict "Ben" DiGiovanni, her mother Olympia (nee Ventura) and father Pietro Bucci, her five siblings Fanny Stanco, Jean Sage, and Peter, Fred and Frank Bucci, and sister-in-law Mary Jane (James) Reed.
