MARY C. OTTO (nee Gallagher), aged 91 years, passed away on Dec. 18, 2010, wife of the late George M., mother of George, Michael (wife Marlene), Thomas (wife Rosemary), James (wife Marian), Christopher (wife Gail) and Margaret Mary Moir (husband Christopher), four granddaughters and two grandsons, daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (nee Cooney) Gallagher, sister of the late Anne M. Halloran.

Mary graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1937 and St. Vincent Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1940, at which time she received her RN degree. She worked as a nurse at St. Vincent Charity Hospital, where she met her future husband, George, who was recovering from an appendectomy.

During WW II, Mary worked as a nurse in a local defense plant in Cleveland. When the war ended she returned to St. Vincent Charity Hospital and married George. She left St. Vincent Charity Hospital to raise her family. During that time she worked as a volunteer at various blood banks. In the early 1970’s, she volunteered as a school nurse at Gesu School in University Heights.

Mary returned to full time employment in 1981 as an RN at a local nursing home. She worked there for two years, then retired. Mary was an avid bridge player and played in various marathons. She was a member of a bridge club that lasted almost 50 years. She was also involved with the Gesu Church Women’s Guild. She leaves behind many friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to the Gesu Parish Building Fund, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Hts., OH. 44118.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 in the Marian Chapel of Gesu Catholic Church at 10:30 AM. Following a luncheon, burial will be at All Souls Cemetery.
