MARK T. PLANISEK age 49 of Washington, DC, formerly of Willoughby Hills died suddenly June 24, 2009. Beloved son of the late Edward and Angela (nee Kodek). Cherished brother of Diane Summey (Paul) of NC, Lynn James (Terry) of VA, Edward (Phyllis), Janice Beal (David) and Michael (Joann). Devoted uncle of 13 and great-uncle of seven. Dearest nephew of Frances Wesner, Betty Wilson and Ann Planisek. Dear cousin and friend of many. Loving companion of Anne Mullen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate Mark’s life on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 12:00 Noon at St. Noel Catholic Church, 35200 Chardon Rd, Willoughby Hills, OH 44094. Interment will be Private at All Souls Cemetery. The family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Mark immediately following the Mass at the Banquet Center at St Noel.
Mark was a well known artist in Washington, DC, throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, China, Germany, Italy and India. Mark graduated from Willoughby South High School in 1977 and pursued his passion in art and graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1979 with a degree in Fine Arts. He eventually combined his fine arts background with his love of photography and created his unique photo-collage style. Mark was specially selected to participate in the “Faces of the Fallen” project that featured more than 1,300 portraits of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan and contributed thirteen paintings to the project. In 2007, Mark received special recognition from the Navy SEALS at the naval amphibious base in Coronado, CA, for two additional portraits that he donated to the base’s permanent memorial.”
