Marilyn S. Kidd

MARILYN S. KIDD (nee Smayda), aged 77 years, beloved wife for 45+ years to Thomas J., dearest mother of Matthew J. (wife Amanda) and the late Becky, loving grandmother of Brynley and Harper Kidd, fond step-mother to Rachael Duffner (husband Greg) and Tom Wilson (wife Jen) and family, dear grandma Marilyn to Gabby and Jake Duffner, cherished sister of Skip Smayda (wife Pat), Dave Smayda (wife Cynthia) and Connie Morgus (husband Bob), devoted aunt. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Marilyn suggested to the Hattie Larlham Foundation, 9772 Diagonal Rd.,Mantua, OH 44255; or to the Gesu Parish Fund, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Hts., OH 44118.

Marilyn was born November 27, 1942 in Cleveland, OH and passed away peacefully on July 26, 2020 in Wickliffe, OH. She was a resident of South Euclid, OH for the past 27 years. Marilyn was a lifelong member of Gesu Catholic Church. She graduated from Beaumont High School in 1960 and attended college at John Carroll University, where she also worked. Marilyn was a volunteer and advocate for over 20 years at Hattie Larlham, a volunteer coordinator at Center for Dialysis Care, and patient advocate for 29 years at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Prior to that she worked for American Aviation and Wise Advertising.

She loved gardening and nature, traveling, spending time with her family and friends, taking walks, bike rides, reading, shopping and baking “especially lemon desserts”. Some activities that could be listed as hobbies for her were weed-pulling, cleaning and dusting. Marilyn absolutely loved Christmas music, especially the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. She also liked to listen to classical music, music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s and Elvis to Enya and beyond. Marilyn found the most joy in life when she was with her family. She was so happy to have the time that she did with her granddaughters Brynley and Harper. Marilyn liked to go out with her friends and always had gatherings at her house when her kids were growing up. She loved to travel to Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland, Europe and Williamsburg. Her favorite holidays were Christmas and Thanksgiving, but she loved every single-family celebration and get together. She hosted Christmas Eve dinner every year at her house where she would get to see how the kids had grown and catch up with everyone that she didn’t see on a regular basis. Thanksgiving was always held at Connie and George’s house (her sister and brother-in-law). Marilyn will be remembered as the kindest soul you would ever meet but knew when to stand her ground, a trait she passed down to her children. She always saw the good in every situation and enjoyed life to the fullest. Marilyn kept a positive outlook on life no matter what was thrown her way. She was outgoing, respectful, full of fun, loving and adventurous. Marilyn truly believed that God has a plan for everything, even though we may not see it. She was a devout Catholic and never wavered from her faith. She was the rock of her family. Marilyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
