Marilyn Corrigan of Lyndhurst, Ohio died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, June 8 from natural causes. Marilyn was the daughter of Dean and Frank Keyes of Cleveland and sister of Stanley Keyes, all deceased, and attended Notre Dame College. She was married for 50 years to her late husband, George Corrigan. After his passing in 2001, she learned to open her heart again, finding a great love with the late Albert Yano, with whom she spent several happy years.
Marilyn was a survivor. She lost two young children to Werdnig-Hoffman disease in the 1960s and her teenaged daughter Sally to a car accident in 1972. But with many children left to care for, Marilyn could not give up. After Sally’s death, she reinvented herself and began what would become a flowering career as an interior designer. With humble beginnings as a JC Penney’s drapery services consultant, she worked with several other designers firms before starting her own firm, Marilyn Corrigan Interiors of Chagrin Falls. She leveraged her good taste and sense of personal style to create beautiful homes across Cleveland.
Good friends will remember Marilyn as a very social person. She maintained a wide range of solid friendships that lasted a lifetime. With her husband George, they enjoyed family vacations with children, rounds of golf with good friends and wonderful gatherings at their home. She enjoyed good health and remained engaged with the pleasures of life, including going out to dinner and a legendary ability to shop. One of Marilyn’s many talents was to bring people together. She and her late husband George loved gatherings and shared vacations, rounds of golf and convivial meals at holiday cookouts with their wide circle of friends.
Marilyn knew that family was the greatest strength of life. She became more dependent upon her children as she aged, bringing them together in new ways to help her with healthcare and living. The family would also like to thank Jacqueline Harris, who provided Marilyn with good companionship and care in later years.
The family suggests contributions in memory of Marilyn to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
