Margaret Winslow

MARGARET ELIZABETH WINSLOW (nee Wheeler), aged 79 years, dearly beloved wife for 47 years to Vincent C., loving mother of Thomas (wife Denise), Kimberly, Kristen Fritz (husband Jeff), Kathleen Thrasher (husband Jay) and Michael, treasured grandmother of Madeleine, Katerine, Virginia and Veronica, devoted daughter of the late Henry and Mary (nee Fabian) Wheeler, cherished sister of Henry Wheeler and the late Maryann Kobilarcik, fond aunt and grand-aunt to many.

Margaret, known by many as ‘Peggy’, lived a life of service and was a ray of light to all she met.

Margaret grew up in Akron, Ohio, with her parents Henry and Mary Wheeler, sister Maryann and brother Henry.

She, along with her husband, Vincent, was an active member of the Church of Saint Dominic in Shaker Heights for nearly 50 years. In that time, they participated in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Habitat for Humanity, children’s prayer partners, and most notably in music ministry. Whether in choir or guitar group, she loved to sing and shared her love for music and her beautiful voice with both her children and her community. She had a special devotion to the Virgin Mary, and honored her Catholic faith in her everyday life.

Margaret and Vince were married on December 28th, 1974. They shared a strong faith and love of God for the entirety of their 47 year marriage. Their deep bond and love for each other remains a beautiful model of devotion.

A mother to five and grandmother to four, Margaret showered her family with love, manifested through cooking and baking, effusive declarations of love and support, and always singing and dancing. She loved music of all kinds including salsa, classical, Celtic and folk, and was nearly always found to be humming a tune. She was wonderfully creative, loved reading, crafting, and anything and everything Irish. She greatly enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially to visit their grandchildren, Madeleine, Katerine, Virginia and Veronica. The gifts she passed on to her children are treasured: to Tom, compassion; to Kim, a love of dance; to Kristen, creativity; to Kathleen, a love of cooking; and to Michael, a love of music.

During her career as a registered nurse, her most notable work was with the Cleveland Clinic on the Bone Marrow Transplant Floor. She took great pride in her vocation, and brought care, comfort, compassion and love to countless patients and their families in their most difficult times.  She would often recall her patients years later—she carried them all in her heart.

She loved spending time with her girlfriends, especially her self-proclaimed ‘soul sisters’. Friends and extended family will recall her beautiful smile and sparkly green eyes, as well as her generosity, sweetness, and occasional feistiness. One of her guiding principles was that she wanted to lift everyone up, and she somehow always said just what you needed to hear.

In her later years, though she suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, Margaret’s smile and laughter could always light up a room, and she greeted everyone she met with a hug—she truly gave the best hugs! Her heart was filled to the brim with love and light—may that light live on in all of us.
