Margaret Irene (Welsh) Nightingale, 89, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Thursday, December 12, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife and loving mother.
Margaret was born in Youngstown, Ohio on July 28, 1924 to Thomas and Mary Welsh. She married the love of her life, William Arthur Nightingale on Jule 14, 1944. William preceded her in death on June 30, 2003.
Besides being a full time mother, Margaret worked in the North High school cafeteria for many years. She was a former member of both St. Mary Magdalene and St. Justin Martyr parishes, serving as Eucharistic minister and working with the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Bank. She was a current member of st. John of the Cross Parish in Euclid.
Margaret most enjoyed raising her seven children and helping with her 15 grandchildren as well as spending time with her 36 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren! She also found great joy in cooking and hosting family gatherings in her home. She was famous for her homemade apple pies and warm Italian bread. She was an avid bowler with an average of 165. Her creative side was evident in her hand painted ceramic nativity set that she displayed with pride each Christmas. She took tender care in making handmade Christmas presents for her family. During their 59 years of marriage, she enjoyed traveling with the love of her life. her most cherished adventure was their trip to Ireland together.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Mary Sweeney, her brother Thomas Welsh and his wife Patricia Welsh, her brother-in-law Mel Stewart, her son Jim Nightingale and her great-grandchildren Tyler David Hanslik and Henry Gilmore.
Family and friends may call on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 7-9PM at Mullally Funeral Home, 28890 Chardon Road, Willoughby Hills, OH 44092. Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 10 AM Tuesday December 17, 2013 at St. John of the Cross Parish, 140 Richmond Road, Euclid, OH 44143. Burial will follow at All Souls cemetery in Chardon.
Memorial contributions may be made to grace Hospice, Altercare of Mentor or JustHope.
