Madeline Sieminski

Madeline A. “Auntie” Sieminski (nee Zelinsky), 96, entered into eternal rest June 6, 2017 at Euclid Hospital after a brief illness. She was a 26 year resident of Willoughby Hills. She was born in Morann, PA on April 9, 1921 to the late Edward J. and Anna S. (nee Brezina) Zelinsky. Her parents moved to Cleveland for work and a better life in 1926. Madeline graduated from St. Joseph Parochial School in 1935 and Collinwood High School in 1939. She remained friends with many of her classmates throughout her life and organized reunions and parties.

Madeline’s father, during the Great Depression, built the E.J. Zelinsky Service station on East 172nd Street and St. Clair because he knew cars were here to stay. However, due to a shortage of men as a result of World War II, he had to ask his daughter Madeline along with her sister Dorothy to help as auto mechanics.  Madeline thought it was a temporary job but went on to run all aspects of the business.

Madeline was a member of St. Noel Church, President of the Kiwanis, President of the Nottingham Civic Club and a member of a Catholic missionary group that supported priests in India.  Her hobbies included watching the Cleveland Indians while criticizing their manager, Terry Francona, telling stories, watching old time movies and musicals, and constructing jigsaw puzzles.  Besides being very spiritual, Madeline’s family described her as a loving, tender, warm, and kind hearted person who had an infectious smile. She was a caregiver to all of her family and friends. She was full of life and always said “I love to the moon and back”. Auntie will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her niece Joanne Kosztolnyik (husband Edward deceased) (fiancé Vincent A. Cook) and her caregiver Debi A. Varnes and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides her parents, Madeline was preceded in death by her husband Chester S., who died in 1979; her sister Dorothy M. Latsko (husband Joseph C.); and her beloved pets, Snoopy her Cat, and Peaches, Shaggy, Butch, Buster and Buddy her dogs.

In lieu of flowers Madeline requested that contributions may be made in her memory to your favorite animal shelter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10 am at St. Noel Catholic Church, 35200 Chardon Rd. Willoughby Hills. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery.  Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Madeline at St. Noel from 9-10 am.
