Louise B. Kogan, age 101. Cherished daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (nee Reinault) Kogan; dearest sister of the late Eleanor Lilly, Genevieve Dimmock, Tillie Fogarty, Joseph & Stanley Kogan. Dear aunt and great aunt to many, including her late cherished niece, Diane Lilly.
Born in Sharon, PA on October 8, 1921, the second youngest of six children, Louise moved to Cleveland as a young girl and received her education at St. Aloysius elementary school and John Hay High School. At the age of thirteen she began her lifelong career in the candy business by selling candy bars to her schoolmates. She had found her calling. Using her creativity and business skills, she went on to manage numerous stores over the years and worked well into her 80’s.
Louise valued her independence, never married, and went on to love her five nieces as if they were her daughters. She attended all of their activities – and then attended her great nieces/nephews events and sports games. She was a hardworking, positive, generous woman who took pride in her home, her yard and her garden. She loved flowers and butterflies and birdsong, and also enjoyed baking, decorating cakes and making customized name mints for special occasions. Her devotion to her family and friends was evident in her joy when preparing for guests, including decorating a beautiful, welcoming table for them, especially at Christmas.
She made lifelong friends and enjoyed learning about people through their experiences and conversation. Her thoughtful and loving nature, combined with her strong and unwavering faith sustained her – she watched daily Mass on TV until the end. Anyone who crossed paths with her received a smile, a kind word and a piece of candy. She would want us to pass that on. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Family and friends are asked to meet for a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, June 3, 2023, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Rd., Newbury, Ohio 44065, at 11AM.
