LILLIAN J. HOMAR (née Wintar), age 97, beloved wife for 62 years of the late Frank; loving mother of Richard Homar (wife Linda), Marian Ostrander (husband Ed), and Kathi Germovsek (husband Larry); devoted grandmother of Katie Homar, Eddy (Rachel) Ostrander, Brian (Holly) Ostrander, Jeff (Morgan) Ostrander, Danielle (Brian) Brown, Stephanie (César) Ostrander-Cáceres, Lillian (John) Vines, Tracy (Alex) Cooper, Larry Jr. (Jennifer) Germovsek, and Patrick (Amanda) Germovsek and great-grandmother of Ronan, Griffin, Ray, Eddy, Bonnie, Vivian, Grace, Nathan, Luke, Benjamin, Liam, Jack, and Owen; cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Antonia (née Goltes) Wintar and step-daughter of Michael Drensek; dearest sister of Ann Pausic (husband Emeric, deceased) and the late Mike Drensek (wife Dorothy); dear aunt and great-aunt of many. She also made many joyful memories with her sisters through marriage over the last 70+ years: Mary Blatnik, Josephine Wutchiett, Frances Kajfez, and Alice Signorelli.
Lillian was born on August 19, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, grew up in a Slovenian neighborhood, and graduated from Collinwood High School. She married her beloved “Frankie” in May 1951. Together, they raised their family in their Euclid home, where they resided for their entire lives. Lillian belonged to several Slovenian organizations: AMLA, Lodge 59, KSKJ, the Holmes Ave Pensioners, and she also belonged to the Euclid Garden Club for many years. She enjoyed cooking delicious homemade meals complete with lettuce from her garden, baking (Slovenian potica, especially), and listening to classic country and polka music. She loved traveling and fondly remembered her visits across the United States and abroad to Europe. Dedicated to her faith, Lillian was a devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish. She considered Father Joe not only her priest but also her friend, and if she couldn’t attend mass in person, she would watch and participate virtually from home, rosary in hand. She truly lived her faith through her unconditional love, humility, patience and generosity. She never judged and had the most kind and gentle presence, carried herself with grace and sincerity, and never had a negative thing to say about anyone. After visiting with Gramma, her grandchildren knew she’d be blowing kisses to them from the window as they drove away. She will be dearly missed by friends and family alike.
