Lillian Homa

LILLIAN P. HOMA (nee Zamiska) age 98, beloved wife of the late John; loving mother of John (wife Janet), Susan Skursha (husband David), Judy Lyons (husband John) and the late Ann Ritchie (husband James (wife Eileen)); devoted grandmother of Jenny Rice (husband Bill), Michelle Macko (husband Jason), Lisa Previts (husband Matthew), Laura Homa, Michael Ritchie (wife Katie), Bryan Skursha (wife Liz), Katie Lentz (husband Jordan) and the bottom five: Dan Skursha, John Lyons, David Skursha, Peter Lyons, and Brett Skursha and great-grandmother of Abby, Evvy, Caleb and William; cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (nee Madansky) Zamiska; dearest sister of the late Anna Nemec (husband Elmer, deceased), Joseph Zamiska (wife Ann, deceased) and Mary Stellmah (husband Joseph, deceased); dear aunt and great-aunt of many.

Lillian was born on February 10, 1922 in Cleveland and passed away on April 23, 2020. She was the daughter of immigrant parents and was very proud of her Slovak heritage. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1939. She married her husband John in 1947, and resided most of her married life in Lyndhurst, where she raised four children. Lillian was a member of St. Gregory the Great parish and had an unwavering faith in God, and a special devotion to St. Jude. She enjoyed gardening, was an excellent baker, and loved to cook Slovak dishes. She and John traveled extensively in the US, Canada and all over Europe. They often treated the entire family to beach vacations and cruises to commemorate special occasions in their lives. She enjoyed all of her twelve grandchildren and was a friend to each one of them, and felt especially blessed to have four great grandchildren. Later in life, she and John joined the pool at Notre Dame College, where they participated in water aerobics three times a week and met many dear friends. Lillian never took life for granted and taught us all to appreciate even the simplest pleasures. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, quick wit and her readiness to embark on a new adventure. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and her spirit will live on in her family and all those she touched. Lillian will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Lillian to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
