LEONTINA “LOU” FATICA (nee Mastrangelo); age 90; beloved wife of the late Gene; loving mother of Barbara, Joanne Benedict (husband John), Carole Rodak (husband Paul) and Eugene (wife Lisa, nee Mascia); devoted grandmother of Allison Gale (husband Justin), Douglas and Emily Rodak, Kate and Jaclyn Benedict and Caroline and Meredith Fatica; treasured daughter of the late Michael and Luigella (nee Tizzano) Mastrangelo; dearest sister of James and the late Mario Mastrangelo (wife LaVerne, deceased); dear aunt, great-aunt and friend of many.
Lou was a resident of Wickliffe for a short time after living in Willoughby Hills for 16 years. She was a member of St. John of the Cross, Richmond Heights Garden Club and the Ladies Oratinese Social Club. A graduate of Shaw High School, Lou worked as a bookkeeper at White Motors and later at the family hardware store, Fatica Hardware. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards like Progressive Rummy, listening to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Big Band Music and Broadway Musicals and accompanying Gene on his frequent trips to Las Vegas.
While Lou was small in stature, she had a big heart and was constantly trying to take care of others. Her sense of hospitality was strong and she was known for her offers of coffee to anyone nearby. She was a great cook and baker and her special love was spending time with her family and creating meals for them. Her specialty was holiday meals but she also liked making dinner after Browns games on Sunday so that it would be a “good Sunday either way!” Her family will fondly remember her as a gentle, caring, loving, gracious, hospitable woman who was slow to judge others and constantly striving to make people comfortable.
Contributions may be made in Lou’s memory to Harbor Light Hospice, 734-C Alpha Drive, Highland Heights, OH 44143.
Mass of Christian Burial Monday, March 10, 2014 at St. Noel Catholic Church at 10 AM. Private burial at Knollwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Lou at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) SUNDAY 2-6 PM.
