LaVALLE A. DORSEY, aged 74 years, retired Deputy Chief of East Cleveland Fire Department, beloved husband for 28 years to Lourdes (nee Alvarado), dear father of Deanna Velez (Eddie), Dana Menzel (Frank), Nicholas and Federico (Miranda), loving grandfather of Alexa Jane Menzel, devoted son of the late Joseph and Mildred (nee Smith), cherished brother of Carole, Kanika, Teresa, Rosalind (deceased), Joanne, Gary, Phillip, Craig and Joe, fond uncle to many nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
United States Air Force Veteran.
LaValle was born on October 17, 1945 and passed away on June 19, 2020. He lived in Cleveland all his life, and was a member of Church of the Saviour in Cleveland Heights for over 20 years. He was involved with the Homeless Ministry, the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless (NEOCH), and the Metanoia Project. LaValle graduated from John Addams High School, and was a graduate of Cleveland State University and Kent State University, where he earned a master’s degree. He worked as a teacher at Shaw High School, and was a firefighter for the City of East Cleveland, where he became Deputy Chief. He was also a member of the Lyndhurst hazmat team. LaValle was an avid reader and loved classic soul music from the 60s and 70s. He enjoyed tracking his family genealogy, and looked forward to family reunions. He also treasured time with his granddaughter. LaValle was a humble, hard-working man and was gracious and kind with a big heart. He wanted to help anyone he could, and he will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Due to COVID restrictions, private services for family and invited guests only on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Church of the Saviour at 11 AM. The service will be live streamed at cotsumc.org/live. Burial with honors following at Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd.) MONDAY 3-7 PM. NOTE: Masks required for visitation and services.
