KATHLEEN ANNE TURNER, aged 73 years, beloved daughter of the late James B. and Marceline E. (nee Carter), dearest sister of Hal R. (wife Nancy), David E. (wife Adle) and Dennis C. (wife Sherrie), loving aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt, and a devoted friend to many. Kathy was a 1st Lt. with the United States Army Nurse Corps, serving in Vietnam. She was also a 43- year dedicated nurse, retiring from the V.A. Stokes Medical Center as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in oncology and pain management. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kathy suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675; to The Cleveland Orchestra, c/o Severance Hall, 11001 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106; or to the University Hospital Transplant Institute, Mather 1800, 11100 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106.
Kathy was born and lived in Iowa until she moved to Cleveland for graduate school. She was a resident of South Euclid since 1976. She was a graduate of Case Western with a MSN degree. Kathy enlisted in the United States Army in 1964, proudly serving her country in Vietnam during the war. She then worked at Mt. Sinai Medical Center from 1978 – 2000, and retired from the Stokes V.A. Medical Center as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in oncology and pain management.
Kathy enjoyed cross stitching, travel, a variety of activities and spending time with her dog Wasabi. She loved listening to classical music, and referred to the Cleveland Orchestra as the “best in the world”. She thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with family and friends. She attended Cleveland Orchestra concerts, Blossom Music concerts, and plays at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square. Although she never married, she had a large extended family.
Kathy made the best deviled eggs for the summer holidays, and always took her nephews on a special birthday date each year. She is described as loving and loyal, strong willed, supportive and a “fire-cracker”. She was generous not only monetarily, but with her time and willingness to give to others any help she could.
Kathy was a breast cancer survivor, and was a liver transplant recipient. Her last fight was a courageous battle for 7 years with pancreatic cancer. She always maintained a positive attitude, loved life, and was a “tough lady”!!
Funeral services Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 at the funeral home at 11 AM. Following a reception, burial with Military Honors will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery (Seville) at 2:30 PM. Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Kathy at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd.) FRIDAY MORNING 9:30 AM UNTIL TIME OF SERVICE.
