KATHERINE RUTH “KATIE” NICOLLI (nee Davey), aged 41 years, a well-respected and much loved Speech Therapist with the Hilliard Ohio School District lost a courageous battle with cancer and passed away on July 20, 2019 at the Maltz Hospice Center in Beachwood, Ohio.
She was blessed with many friends, neighbors, colleagues and family and is survived by her two daughters, Ella and Avery. Katie lost her husband, Dave Nicolli, two years ago and worked hard as a single mother to raise her daughters. In addition to her daughters, she’s survived by her mother, Kathy Chamberlain Davey (father Thomas E. Davey – deceased), brothers Terrance, Brian, Tommy (wife Vicki), Michael (deceased) and Kevin Davey (wife Monica Luis) as well as mother-in-law Elaine (husband Dave Sr.- deceased), brothers-in-law Jay (wife Melissa) and Tony, as well as other families including the Chamberlins, the Nicollis, and a large group of close friends and colleagues. She will be sorely missed by all, including her extended family at Hilliard Schools and many close neighbors in her Hilliard, Ohio home. As a young girl, Katie became an accomplished Irish Dancer with Murphy Irish Art Center and traveled to Ireland with her family to perform in international Irish Dancing showcases. Her dancing skills resulted in a scholarship to the College of Wooster, where she modified her Irish Dancing to become a Scottish Dancer for the Wooster Fighting Scots Dance Team.
She earned a BA from the College of Wooster and a Masters Degree in Speech Therapy from Nova Scotia University.
During her 11 years at Hilliard Schools, she helped students improve their speech and achieve academic success.
Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, July 25, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (Gates Mills) at 11:30 AM. Private burial in Lake View Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Katie at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd.) WEDNESDAY 3-8 PM.
