K9 OFFICER KUBO CASTO
Born November 20th, 2001 in Germany. Arrived in the U.S. in March 2003. On April 24th, 2003, Kubo was adopted by PTL. Tim Casto, his wife Kelly and daughter Brittany.
In June 2003, PTL. Casto and Kubo started their official training at Von Der Haus Gill in Wapakoneta, Ohio. In August 2003, PTL. Casto and Kubo graduated and certified with the state of Ohio to start what would become an incredible 10 year career together.
Throughout the 10 years, Kubo did numerous demonstrations for D.A.R.E., day care centers, outreach centers, churches and schools. Kubo competed in the N.E. Ohio “Top Dog” competition in 2009 and 2010. Kubo took “Top Dog” honors in 2009 and First Place in 2010. Kubo was certified in narcotic detection, criminal apprehension, tracking, article searches and building/area searches. He was responsible for locating numerous amounts of narcotics and cash, making the community safer for its residents.
He also assisted with the tracking and location of a 7 year old girl who went missing from school and the location of an Alzheimer’s patient who went missing from home. Along with the 13 criminal apprehensions and arrests that Officer Kubo is credited for, he was also known for his amazing ability to quell and disperse a crowd which made him invaluable in many situations.
On March 24, 2013, Kubo was called home ending an illustrious career. He will be missed by so many from the community, his fellow officers of the Richmond Heights Police Department but most of all by his Dad Tim, his Mom Kelly, his Sister Brittany and his favorite Niece Olivia. While Kubo’s position on the police force demanded respect on the job, at home things were completely different. He enjoyed being the “family pet” of the Casto family. He played with his toys and had his own room.
PTL. Casto and his family wish to thank the community and businesses of Richmond Heights who were always there to help Kubo and everyone for the outpouring of emotional support that we have received and also to Dr. Jeff Richmond of the Richman Animal Clinic and Dr. Charles Curie of the Country Doctor along with their staffs for the care that they gave to Kubo.
