JUNE G. EROSKEY (nee Maehler), aged 89 years, beloved wife of the late Clifford R., dearest mother of Kevin H., Gail A. Zak (husband James) and Sandra L. Stockey (husband Charles), loving grandmother of Abby Turner-Stockey and Kaelyn Zak, fond sister of the late Marilyn Johnson. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of June suggested to St. John Lutheran Church, 4386 Mayfield Rd., South Euclid, OH 44121.
Mrs. June Gertrude Eroskey was born on April 20, 1929, the youngest of two children, to Paul and Metta Maehler. Baptized and subsequently confirmed on May 31, 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of South Euclid, Ohio, she was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. June’s only sister, Marilyn R. Johnson, predeceased her on June 6, 2005.
June grew up on Westdale Road in South Euclid. Her father Paul owned a bakery during the depression years. June’s favorite treat from the bakery were the Lady Locks. June graduated from Brush High School and continued her education in pharmacy at Case Western Reserve University until the pharmacy school was closed. She worked as a chemist at a flour mill in the flats in Cleveland. On May 20, 1950, she married Clifford Ralph Eroskey. Cliff died on September 16, 2005. They had been married for 55 years. Millie, her beloved Australian Shepherd, came to live with June shortly thereafter.
June has three children – Kevin Eroskey of Kennesaw, GA, Gail Zak of Lincoln, RI and Sandy Stockey of Eastlake, OH. She has two grandchildren, Abby Turner of Eastlake, OH and Kaelyn Zak of Lincoln, RI. She raised her family at 1840 East 225th Street, Euclid, OH where she and Cliff moved in 1959.
June returned to work as a pharmacy technician at Margaret Wagner House Nursing Home in the 1970’s. After leaving Margaret Wagner House, she worked in medical records for Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home until retirement.
June led and active life of volunteerism and service. She served as member of St. John Lutheran Church’s choir, altar guild and as a donation counter. She served as a board member for St. John’s Cemetery. June was a United States Selective Service board member. As an active member of the Republican Party, June was an elected Precinct Committee member. June was proud of being awarded a prestigious City of Euclid Citizens Award for her volunteer activities with the Euclid Police Department. Additionally, June was active with the Hospice of the Western Reserve, neighborhood associations and participated in several bridge clubs. Her favorite sport was tennis.
June left her home for the final time in February 2018 after repeated hospitalizations. Since that time, she resided at Mount St. Joseph Rehab Center.
On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, she went home to be with the Lord.
Funeral services Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church at 2 PM. Burial following in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of June at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd.) MONDAY 4-7 PM.
