Judith Lynn Wervey

JUDITH LYNN WERVEY (nee Nixon) age 79, beloved wife for 50 years of Richard; loving mother of Maria Savransky (husband Jason), Melissa DeGennaro (husband Nick), Richard (wife Megan) and John (wife Erin); devoted grandmother of Karrie Pfouts (husband Ben), Kandace Kuhnle, Karley Krahe (husband Matt), Nicholas and Marilena DeGennaro, Toran Savransky, Francesca and Denver Wervey and great-grandmother of Karson Krahe, Kennedy Pfouts, Kolton Krahe, Kourtney Pfouts, and Kade Krahe; cherished daughter of the late Denver and Eleanor (nee Houchin) Nixon; dearest sister of the late Jerry Nixon and sister-in-law of Gregory Wervey (wife Dianne) and the late Shiela and Mike Braun; dear the late aunt, great-aunt and friend of many. Contributions may be made in memory of Judith to Geauga WomenSafe.

Judy was born June 26, 1941 in Pontiac, Michigan and died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on February 23, 2021.  She lived in Chagrin Falls for the past 44 years and prior to that lived in Farmington Hills and Dearborn Heights, Michigan.  She graduated from High School in 1959, where she cheered on her school’s sports teams and then attended Eastern Michigan University, where she earned a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology.

Judy always loved working with children – first as a speech pathologist in Dearborn Heights, Michigan and after a brief foray into Real Estate (a million dollar club member at Smythe, Cramer), Judy opened The Kid’s Club, Inc. in Bainbridge, Ohio.  While working as the owner / operator of The Kid’s Club, Inc., she made famous “The Wervey Kiss” where she left a kiss in bright pink lipstick on the foreheads of every Kid’s Club graduate. She was honored to be a surrogate parent for children in the Chagrin Valley, offering family-like, personalized care for families in our community, a tradition that continues today. She often lent a compassionate ear and a cup of coffee as support to members of Al-Anon, who she left knowing that they were not ever alone and were always understood when she was around. As President of The Kenston Booster Club, she furthered her commitment to community involvement and service. She enjoyed being part of The Tacky Twelve, spending time with friends and mentoring today’s successful business leaders in Geauga County. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, hosting parties and feeding decadent food (ribs, slurry, clambakes) to friends and family, making sure they were all happy and fulfilled. Her dream vacation included one hand holding a cigarette while the other operated a slot machine in Las Vegas.

Judy was a devoted wife and partner, a loving mother, and an unforgettable grandmother. She was blessed to have spent time with five great grandchildren. She taught her family to give back to their communities, work hard and smart so that there was time to enjoy spending time together playing games, and spending hours around her kitchen table – which was large enough to include everyone. Above all, she showed us how to be comfortable simply being ourselves. She was a role model for women in business, giving her children the confidence to pursue what they loved and provided an example that allowed her children to form strong partnerships founded in love and respect. Think of her when you see the tell tale kiss on someone’s forehead, and know that she left an indelible mark on those with whom she came into contact.

In memory of Judy, her wish would be for you to dine out in our community, support our local business leaders and spend time letting those you love know how you feel. Please sit around your kitchen table and share a story about Judy or her family and give thanks for one another.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Holy Angels Catholic Church at 10 AM. Burial following at Restland Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Judith at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.)  FRIDAY 3-7 PM.
