Joyce Waschura

Cherished daughter of Robert E. and Ruth A. Waschura (nee Welling); dearest sister of Jim (wife Leisa), Tom (wife Becky) and Jill Stevens (husband Paul); dear aunt of Alexandra, Audrey, Christopher, Harrison, and Jackson.

Joyce was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1959 to Ruth A. and Robert E. Waschura. She died peacefully at home on December 4, 2020. She was the eldest of four siblings including her brothers James R. (Jim) and Thomas E. (Tom) and her sister Jill Ann.  She attended grade school at Wells Elementary school in Euclid, and graduated from Euclid Senior High School in 1977.  She attended Ohio State University and graduated magna cum laude from Hiram College.  Subsequently, she also received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Erie College.  She retired from Cleveland-Cliffs mining and steel products company, where she began her career as a corporate risk analyst in 1987 and retired as an Assistant Treasurer.

Joyce was very active in her community in Euclid Ohio, where she lived nearly her entire life.  She started the Fullerwood neighborhood watch program in her area, and was appointed to community involvement boards by the city of Euclid.  She volunteered with the Greater Cleveland Volunteers and Shoreview elementary school children reading tutors.

Joyce had many friends in the nearby community who would often see each other at summer church festivals and shoreline live music concerts and local establishments including Cebars on 185th street.  She was active in her online community on Facebook social media, where she often offered her common-sense perspective.  She was also very interested in Ancestry research, and tracked family descendants back centuries on Ancestry.com.

Joyce’s hard work, organization, business savvy, thoroughness, high standards, strong sense of right and wrong, and social ethic, coupled with loyalty to her friends and family, and willingness to help others and to provide leadership and organization to aid her community made her a role model to many.

Joyce shared her home with her beloved dog Lola, who misses her greatly and who is currently sleeping on her pillow at night.  Joyce and Lola would often walk together taking photographs at Cleveland metro parks, Euclid Sims Park and Euclid Memorial Park. She enjoyed sitting on the benches at Willowick Lakefront Lodge park watching the sunset over Lake Erie.

Joyce was upbeat and optimistic throughout her year-long battle with cancer, and her passing occurred in the afternoon without discomfort, while she was holding her sister’s hand.  Joyce was well loved and she will be missed greatly.  She leaves a significant hole in the hearts of her friends and family,

Cremation by DeJohn Crematory. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joyce’s life at a graveside ceremony on Saturday December 12 2020 at 11:00 AM at Willoughby Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Lakeshore Blvd (just east of Lost Nation Road). Please wear covid face masks and practice social-distancing. Arrangements by THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD.
