JOSEPHINE STRLE age 91, beloved wife of the late Anthony; loving mother of Josephine Roberts (husband Rick), Helen Strle, Bernadette Duffy (husband Charles) and Elizabeth Melito; cherished grandmother of Jessica Graf (husband Phil), Eric Roberts (fiancé Isabelle Muich), Joseph, Christina, Marisa and Emma-Alexa Melito; and great-grandmother of Lynden and Bryson; cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (nee Miklavcic) Voje; dearest sister of Anna Krevh-Champa (husband Tony) and the late Sylvia Krasovec (husband Edward); dear aunt and great- aunt of many.

Josephine Strle was born on August 18 1929 in Liubljana, Slovenia and died peacefully in her home November 5th 2020.

Josephine grew up in Slovenia until she had to flee after the war. She and her family spent five years in a refugee camp in Austria. Josephine immigrated to the United States in the 1954. She sang in the Koritan Group before she got married in 1956.

She lived her entire life in Euclid where she raised her family. She spent ten years as a homemaker and worked as a seamstress and a nanny. Josephine then went back to work as a machinist at Gould manufacturing for over twenty years. She was the first female machinist at Gould.

She was a member of St. Christine’s until they closed and then became a member of St. Mary’s in Collinwood.

Josephine loved to knit, crochet and garden and spending time with her grandchildren. She was known as an accomplished baker, known especially for her strudel, potica, and Slovenian Christmas cookies. Her favorite music was polka and she liked to dance, especially waltzes with her husband.

Josephine was soft spoken but resilient and hardworking. She was funny with an infectious laugh. She is described by those who love her as nurturing and devoted to her family.

Compassionate, Josephine is remembered as someone who was kind to everyone and always said goodbye to people by saying “take care of yourself”. She will be dearly missed by all.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (Holmes Ave.) at 10 AM. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Josephine at THE ZEVNIK-COSIC FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) MONDAY 3-7 PM.
