JOSEPH D. SMOLIC, age 67, of Kirtland, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, April 19.

Born 8 June, 1946 in Linz, Austria, he was a long time Euclid resident before moving to Kirtland 25 years ago.

He was the owner/operator of Smolic Machine Co. in Willoughby, founded by his parents 50 years ago and carried on by his son Joseph.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather “Pops”.

He is survived by Sally (nee Gorse), his beloved wife of 48 years; son Joseph E. (Helen); daughters Christine Covetta and Stephanie (Rob) Keay; granddaughters Lindsey, Lauren, Liliana and Lydia Covetta, and Harlow and Piper Keay; brother Emil (Margo) Smolic. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Steffie Smolic.

He was an active member of Slovenska Pristava, where he spent many happy days since retirement. He was also a longtime member of the Euclid Knights of Columbus.

Joe will best be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone, anytime, anywhere. He will be missed.

According to his wishes, there will be no public calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday April 26, 2014 at Divine Word Chapel 8100 Eagle Rd. Kirtland, OH. Reception will follow.
