Joseph John Rihtar

It is with a deep sadness that we announce the death of Joseph John Rihtar. Born on March 17, 1945 in Slovenia, Joe passed way on January 24, 2025 at UH Lake Medical Center in Willoughby at the age of 79.

Joe was the beloved husband for 51 years to his wife Connie (nee Hutson), cherished father of his son Brian Rihtar, devoted son of the late Frank and Kristina (nee Cerar), dear brother of Frank, Milan, John, Michael, Stan, and Mary (deceased) Rihtar, and Margaret Lavrisha and Magdalene Lavrisha, fond uncle and great-uncle to many.

Joe was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Cleveland. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Joe was an avid sailor and loved the time spent on the waters of Lake Erie. He enjoyed working in his garden, and especially growing and sharing fresh vegetables. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. 

Joe’s family, relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 31, 2025, at St. Vitus Catholic Church, 6019 Lausche Ave., Cleveland, at 11 AM. Reception following the Mass. Burial will be at a later date with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.

Any memorial donations in Joe’s memory made be made to the family.
