JOSEPH A. NELSON, Sr.
Prayers of Christian Burial for Joseph A. Nelson, Sr., 70, will be on Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 at 10:00 AM at The Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South Street, Chardon, OH. Mr. Nelson died peacefully on Monday Nov. 21 at Burton Health Care. Born in Chester Township, he was a life-long resident of Chardon.
Joe worked as a Carpenter and was a member of Union Local 639. He was very passionate about his family. He enjoyed travel with his wife Debbie and renovating homes with his son Joe. He collected model cars and was best known for his homemade hush puppies and sauerkraut, very recently making a batch with his daughter Vicki. His family describes him as a compassionate friend to all and a great story-teller and joke-teller.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife of 17 years Deborah (Vinez) of Chardon; his children Joseph Jr. (Janet) of Chardon, Vicki (Tim) Dailey of Chardon, Stephanie of Tuscon, AZ and Jennifer (Michael) Hannan of Phoenix, AZ, step-daughters Nicole (Chris) Reapp of Phoenix, AZ and Stacey Narovec of Cleveland; grandchildren Krista, Amanda, Kelsey, Joey, Evan, Nathan, Myles, Hailey, Michael, Olive and Opal; great-granddaughter Adriana; siblings Alfred Nelson of Ft Myers, FL and Emma Hopkins of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rufus and Celia, infant son James, and siblings Virginia, Helen, Thelma, Rufus, Kenneth, Vaughn and Andrew.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Sunday 1-3 and 5-7 PM. Burial will follow the Prayers on Monday in Western Reserve Memorial Park in Chester Twp. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the American Cancer Society, East Central Division, P.O. Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033.
