JOSEPH EDWARD CASE, born on February 17, 1937, passed away May 9, 2024, at the age of 87 years. Husband of Mary-Lou (nee Koehler); beloved father of Kathleen Ann Drabeck (husband Jerry) and Joel John Case (fiancée Krista Lafferty); loving grandfather of Matthew, Melissa and Lauren; great-grandfather of Alice and Avery; devoted son of the late Joseph and Ann (nee Waszil); cherished brother of Magdaline Nadsady (Marty Robertson); fond uncle and great-uncle.

Joseph attended St. Elizabeth of Hungary Elementary and St. Joseph High School, as well as Fenn College, all in Cleveland. He was in the Army Reserves for 6 years. Once married, Joe and Mary Lou settled in Lyndhurst. The family were parishioners of St. Paschal Baylon Church, where Joe was a member of The Holy Name Society. He was an engineer at The East Ohio Gas Company for 38 years until his retirement. Joe was active in The Boy Scouts of America, as well as The Hungarian Business and Tradesmen Club. He also enjoyed swimming and was a member of the YMCA. The couple belonged to a travel club through East Ohio Gas and participated in many group trips, including cruises and bus tours.

An avid wood-worker, Joe produced many beautiful pieces, including toys, shelves, and landscaping accessories that still adorn the yard. He could fix practically ANYTHING, and was the family go-to for home remolding projects and auto repair. A voracious reader, he was well versed on history AND current events. He also had a love for all things trolley related and was a member of a trolley preservation organization. Midlife, Joe officially became a "cat person" and almost always had a cat beside him.

In his final years, he lived with his daughter, Kathleen, and fought hard against bladder cancer, but finally succumbed to esophageal cancer. He was ALWAYS pleasant throughout his life, but his final encounters with hospital, adult day-care, hospice and nursing home staff may just end up being his most memorable. Everyone he encountered loved him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joe suggested to Hospice of the Western Reserve. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 10 -11 AM at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME, 4600 MAYFIELD RD., SOUTH EUCLID. Prayers of Christian Burial following at 11 AM. Private burial in Calvary Cemetery.
