JOSEF RUS, age 82, beloved husband for 59 years of Irena (nee Lah); loving father of Tony (wife Jenni), Steven (wife MaryBeth) and Mark (wife Stacy); devoted grandfather of Tyler, Samantha, John, Hannah, Connor, Jason, Jacob (dec), Nathaniel and Nik Urban; dearest brother of France, Jenni Kogovsek (husband Frank), Ivan (wife Joži dec), Stanley (Jill Marinic), Anthony (wife Theresa), and the late Slavko, Mici Smuk, Frances Vidmar, Toni Vrenko and Lojzka; treasured brother-in-law of Marie Lah (husband Josef dec) and Joseph Chauby (wife Lenka dec); dear uncle and great-uncle of many. U.S. Army Veteran.
Josef was born September 30, 1940, in Slovenia and passed away on September 11, 2023. He attended school in Slovenia before moving to the U.S. in 1957. He had a great love for this country and was very proud of becoming a citizen. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and married his beloved Irena not long after coming to the U.S. Later, Josef went into manufacturing as a tool & die maker working for National ACME Manufacturing and PAKO Inc.
He loved to travel the Western US and places like New Zealand, Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, and Slovenia. He enjoyed alpine skiing, dancing, polka music and was an avid Browns fan. Josef was a member Pristava Pensioners, KSKJ, St. Vitus Catholic Church and St. Noel Catholic Church since 1980. His family and friends will lovingly remember him for his mild-mannered ways and his devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren and his faith.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, September 16, 2023, at St. Noel Catholic Church, 35200 Chardon Rd., Willoughby Hills, at 10 AM. Burial following with Military Honors at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Josef at THE ZEVNIK-COSIC FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) FRIDAY 4-8 PM.
