JOHN WATSON “JACK” PHILLIPS, 86 of Willoughby, Ohio passed away September 19, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, New York on March 29, 1926, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan. Jack’s children include Stephen (Barbara), Deborah (Thomas), William (Patricia) and James (Kay), and nine grandchildren; Caleb, Mason, Robert, Julie, Samuel, Andrew, Michael, Andrea (Justin) and Todd.
After serving in the Army Air Corps in World War II, Jack earned a degree from Columbia University in New York City and enjoyed a long career as a geologist. He retired from Pickands Mather in 1986. He traveled extensively throughout the world during his career. His favorite business destinations included Australia, Tasmania, and Japan. An avid volunteer throughout his life, he also loved sailing and singing. Jack was a member of Mentor Harbor Yacht Club, the Hermit Club, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Choir in Cleveland Heights.
A service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Boulevard, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44106. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the St. PaulÃ’s Episcopal Church Music Fund. Cremation by DeJohn Crematory. Arrangements by THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS.
