John Thur

JOHN THUR, age 82, beloved husband for 59 years of the late Charlene (nee Baughman); loving father of David (wife Karen), Janet Heimovitz (husband Gary), Cindy Loughry (fiancé Doug Waskovich), Lori Giesen (husband Todd) and the late Steven; devoted grandfather of Russell Heimovitz (Cydny), Casey Heimovitz, Kelly Loughry, Mark Heimovitz (Megan), Keri Loughry, Kayla Loughry, Jared Heimovitz, Alaina Vogel (Andrej) and Emily Giesen and great-grandfather of Carter, Cecilia, Eden and Delilah; cherished son of the late Adam, Jr and Mary (nee Chernesky) Thur; dearest brother of Adam Thur III (wife Jean), George Thur (wife Carol), Ann Ankrum (husband Robert, deceased) and the late Rudolph Thur; dear uncle and great-uncle of many.

John was born and raised on a dairy farm in Marsteller, PA and moved to Cleveland in 1950.  John was a resident of Richmond Heights for the past 52 years.  He was very active in the community, belonging to the Kiwanis of Richmond Heights since 1973 and serving as president one year, serving on the Richmond Heights Zoning Board of Appeal for 10 years and as a member of the Richmond Heights Booster Club.  John also coached little league for 7 years with championship teams.  He owned and operated John Thur Roofing & Gutters from 1959-2003.  John enjoyed bowling, hunting, horse racing, going to the casino and all the Cleveland sports teams.  He also loved polka music and listened every morning while shaving.  John will be remembered as a hard-working, determined man, who will be missed for his kind, giving nature and his sense of humor.

Panachida Service Thursday December 10, 2015 at 9 AM at the Funeral Home followed by the Divine Liturgy at St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church 532 Lloyd Rd Euclid, OH at 10 AM. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of John at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) WEDNESDAY 3-5 & 6-8 PM. Parastas at 4:30 PM.
