JOHN D. “JACK” SCHMIDT aged 92, passed away peacefully February 12, 2017 at Hospice House among family. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann (nee Cassidy) and his second wife, Claire (nee Hoffman); he is survived by his six children Patrick (wife Kathy Willis), John, Christine Snead (husband Jim), Michael, Rosemary Sandt (husband Tim) and Anne Ludwick (husband George); devoted grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 11.

Jack was a World War II U.S. Navy  Veteran who was involved in LCI-assisted landings at Omaha Beach during D-Day. He was proud of his service and coordinated bi-annual reunions with his surviving crewmates. He also served as a compassionate caregiver to his wives, Ann and Claire, after each was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He was employed for many years as a chief accountant at Lincoln Electric and received a Man of the Year award for his diligent and innovative service to the company. Jack was strongly admired by his children and others for his resourcefulness, good nature, enthusiasm and insight.

Jack was a resident of Willoughby Hills for 23 years, formerly of South Euclid. He graduated from Barberton High School and the University of Akron. Jack enjoyed traveling, especially to Paris, Normandy and Mexico. He was a Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavs fan. Jack will be remembered most as a family-oriented, outgoing and social man who was a great storyteller. He will be greatly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Noel Catholic Church at 10 AM.  Burial following with Military Honors at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jack at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) THURSDAY 4-8 PM.
