John Ponn

JOHN C. PONN age 94, born on April 22, 1922 in Murray City, Ohio and passed away on July 18, 2016. He was the beloved husband for 73 years of Bonita (nee Craft); loving father of Ronald and John C. Jr.; devoted grandfather of Brian (wife Bridget) and great-grandfather of Indica and Trevor; dearest brother of Samuel.

John was a resident of Willoughby Hills since 1955, formerly of East Cleveland. He graduated from Murray City High School and married the love of his life, Bonita on August 22, 1942. John was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. He was a past Master of the Ornan Masonic Lodge #652 F&AM, a member of VFW Willoughby Hills Post #4358, and a past Commander with Kirtland American Legion Post #609. John was a past president of Willoughby South Booster Club, a past president of Willoughby Hills Boys League, and a volunteer fireman for Willoughby Hills. He spent many years as a sales representative in Food Service, for B&B Biscuit. John loved to coach and play baseball. He enjoyed gardening and was a Cleveland sports fan. John will be remembered by his family as a man who spoke his mind even if he wasn’t always politically correct.

Celebration of Life Service Thursday evening July 21, 2016 at 7:30 PM at THE FUNERAL HOME. Interment will take place with Military Honors on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, OH at 1:30 PM (Please meet at cemetery entrance). Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of John at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) THURSDAY 2-7:30 PM.
