JOHN S. MERK
Prayers of Christian Burial for John S. Merk, 71, will be on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 8 pm at the Funeral Home. Mr. Merk passed away on April 3, 2016. John was born May 19, 1944 in Cleveland and lived in Solon before moving to Chardon in 1970. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
John was employed for Kolcap Manufacturing as an engineering draftsman for 20 years. John spent his free time in the outdoors, hunting, and fishing, sport shooting and watching sporting events especially the Indians. He also spent a lot of time with his grandchildren which he adored.
His family described him as an easy going, caring man with a good sense of humor. He was well liked and genuine nice guy.
He is survived by his children Lisa DeMore (husband Nick) and Carrie Korenke (husband Kevin); grandchildren Nicholas and James DeMore, Isabella and Tyler Korenke; sister Judy Gallipo; and uncle of many.
Mr. Merk was preceded in death by his wife Donna (nee Uhlir); parents John and Helen (nee Balog); and sister Carol Valaitis.
Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of John at the DeJohn Funeral Home & Crematory of Chardon (formerly Ritondaro) 126 South St. (Rt. 44, south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) THURSDAY 4-8 PM. Private Burial in All Souls Cemetery. Family suggests contributions be made in John’s memory to Hospice of the Western Reserve 17876 St. Clair Ave. Cleveland, OH 44110.
