JOHN F. “JACK” McDEVITT age 90; beloved husband for 62 years of the late Patricia Anne “Patti” (nee Dunn); loving father of Margaret, John R. (wife Sarah) of Cape Coral, FL and Cathleen McDevitt (partner Sandra) of Mobberley, England; cherished son of the late John, Sr and Alice (nee Brisbois); dearest brother of the late Robert P. (wife Josephine); devoted uncle and godfather.

Jack was born on October 4, 1926 in New York, NY and passed away on January 14, 2017 in Willoughby, OH where he had been a resident for 6 years, previously residing in Lyndhurst.  He graduated from high school in Springfield, MA and received a Chemical Engineering degree from Purdue University and a Law degree from Cleveland Marshall Law School.  Jack was a kind, loyal husband, father and fighter to the end. He was saved by God and AA. Jack was a member of the “Greatest Generation” and was a WWII US Army Veteran and fought with the 5th Armored Division. Jack was a successful patent attorney for General Electric and after retirement he continued to practice law and help local inventors.   He enjoyed playing golf, snow skiing, scuba, hiking and camping.  He was a fan of Cleveland sports and Purdue football.  Jack was friendly, outgoing and social and loved to tell stories.  He had a great sense of humor.  Jack was loved by his family, friends and caregivers. The family wants to thank his caregivers who helped Jack with love and kindness, especially Hattie Grice, Audrey McKissick, Maceline Wanji and the nurses of Great Lakes Caring and all those who kept him in their thoughts and prayers .

Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Willoughby) at 10 AM. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory. Inurnment at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jack at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) WEDNESDAY 4-8 PM.
