JOHN H. SHERIDAN age 78, beloved husband for 48 years of Elaine (nee Csoltko); cherished son of the late John and Dorothy (nee Getler); dearest brother of Kathleen Ramsay (husband Stuart) and the late David (wife Dava); treasured brother-in-law of E. Richard and Jean Csoltko; dear uncle of Dori and Jim Whithorne, Jaime and Todd Webster, and Edward and Lisa Csoltko, great-uncle and cousin of many.
John was respected locally for his outstanding work in community journalism and recognized internationally for his articles in INDUSTRY WEEK magazine which is targeted to an audience of managers and executives in U.S. industry. In the 1970s, he specialized in the coverage of environmental law and regulation –analyzing the complex rules and regulations imposed on U.S. industries .He tracked the Clean Water Act of 1972 and the Clean Air Act of 1977 through Congress and into the regulatory arena .In the 1990’s, he developed IW’s “America’s Best Plants Awards” which honors ten of America’s most outstanding manufacturing companies. The Best Plant awards are still one of the most respected sources of performance statistics and management practice information. In the late 1970’s, John helped to relaunch the Press Club of Cleveland, the leading professional journalism organization throughout Northeast Ohio. There, he served two terms as president . During his time on the board, he helped found not only the “Excellence in Journalism” awards program, but also the Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame. In 1997, the club added John’s name to the highly selective honor roll. The Press Club recognized John for his long and passionate career in journalism, which includes his three decades at Industry Week Magazine. Prior to joining INDUSTRY WEEK, Mr. Sheridan was editor of a weekly newspaper – The EUCLID NEWS -JOURNAL in Euclid, Ohio. He also worked part-time as sportswriter for the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, covering high school sports. For some 15 years, he supervised the PD’s coverage of high school wrestling. Mr. Sheridan was a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph High School and was inducted into the VASJ Hall of Fame in 2004. John was a 1963 graduate of John Carroll University where he earned a degree in mathematics. Mr. Sheridan received many awards during his career – including a first place from the National Harness Race Writers Association in 1968 to numerous awards from the American Society of Business Press Editors . John was an avid golfer and played golf for 193 consecutive months in Cleveland with a neighbor, Mike who always said, ”You know, it just might be the last nice golf day of the year.” John resided in Euclid with his wife Elaine. Overall, John lived a tremendous life full of passion for his family and his career in writing. He will be dearly missed by all.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church 19951 Lake Shore Blvd, Euclid, OH, 44119 at 10 AM. Burial following at All Souls. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of John at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) MONDAY 4-8 PM.
