HONDLIK (nee Julien) age 57, died unexpectedly on March 17, 2024; beloved wife for 24 years of Christopher J.; devoted mother of Ryan and Lauren; cherished daughter of the late Therese (nee Ryan) and William Julien; dearest sister of Jennifer Julien, George Julien, Jr., and her twin Don Julien; dear aunt of Courtney Julien; loving daughter-in-law of the late Eileen (nee McGinty) and Frank Hondlik and sister-in-law of Mary Jo Hondlik and Kay Soltysiak (husband John); adored friend and teacher of many.
Jocelyn Hondlik, beloved wife of Christopher Hondlik and proud mother of Ryan and Lauren, was a woman of remarkable kindness. Born to Therese and William Julien, the loving sister of Jennifer, George, and Don, and adored aunt to Courtney Julien. Growing up in Shaker Heights, she eventually moved to Pepper Pike, where she spent most of her life. She was a proud graduate of Gilmour Academy, class of ’85, the place where she first met her future husband. A beacon of beauty, Jocelyn embraced an active lifestyle with zest. She found joy in running, completing two Cleveland Marathons, and engaged in other outdoor sports. Her dedication to her physical well-being extended to her meticulous care of her home, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests.
With a love for animals, Jocelyn’s home often mimicked a miniature zoo. However, Jocelyn’s greatest passion lay in her role as an educator. After graduating with a teaching degree from Wittenburg University, she embarked on a journey overseas, teaching English to students in Japan, Spain, and Dubai.
Upon her return, Jocelyn dedicated 28 years to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. During this time, driven by her love for education, she went on to pursue two master’s degrees in Reading and Special Education. Jocelyn took the time to understand the needs of each student, offering support and guidance beyond the classroom. Whether it was listening to problems, providing meals for hungry students, or ensuring they had warm clothing, Jocelyn’s caring nature empowered many to excel in both academics and life. Beyond her professional achievements, Jocelyn was an extraordinary mother to Ryan and Lauren.
With unwavering love and devotion, she fostered their growth into exceptional people. In every moment of her life, Jocelyn Hondlik exemplified compassion, strength, and dedication. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jocelyn to her Memorial Fund supporting Special Education and Children. Cremation by DeJohn Crematory.
