JoAnn was born on March 5, 1921 in Evanston, Illinois, and passed away on June 15,, 2019. She was a resident of Laurel Lake in Hudson, Ohio for 15 years, previously in Beachwood, Ohio. JoAnn graduated from John Marshall High School in 1938 and Ohio Wesleyan University in 1942. During her college years, she belonged to Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was elected to membership in the Eta Chapter of Ohio, Phi Beta Kappa .
In December 1942 JoAnn married Ralph William (Bill) Leavenworth, Jr. while Bill served in the Navy. They were happily married for 66 years. They enjoyed playing golf and tennis together at Canterbury Country Club. They were avid ping-pong and bridge players and were devout Cleveland Browns fans. Traveling with good friends was treasured; some of their favorite trips were to Bermuda and Europe. They especially loved their family vacations to the Muskoka Lakes region of Ontario, Canada. Together JoAnn and Bill enjoyed supporting their children’s activities including traveling to every high school and college football game.
JoAnn was a true lady, gracious and considerate, with a wonderful sense of humor and a strong sense of right and wrong. She was intelligent, a student of art, history, and language into her late years. A regular hobby was her daily crossword puzzles. A loving mother and wife, she created a warm and happy home environment.
JoAnn is deeply loved and will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at 1:30 pm at the Federated Church, 76 Bell St., Chagrin Falls, OH 44022. A reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
