Joan Shively

JOAN MARIE THÉRÈSE SHIVELY (nee Kish) age 86, beloved wife of the late Robert W., Sr.; loving mother of Marie Highfield (husband Mark), Robert Jr. (wife Caroline), Carolyn Sokol (husband Jeffrey), Joseph (wife Catherine), and Jon (wife Teresa); devoted grandmother of Gabriel and Kateri Sokol, Mariah and Regina Highfield, Jacob Shively, Tobias Highfield, Sarah, Christina and Bethany Shively, Cecelia Highfield, Luke, Amelia, Emma, Miles, Matthew, Anna Mae and Owen Shively; cherished daughter of the late Edward W., Sr. and Harriett J. (nee Kinkopf) Kish; sister of Edward W., Jr.; dearest aunt and great-aunt of many.

Joan was born on February 11, 1935 in Cleveland and passed away on November 2, 2021. She grew up in Cleveland Heights, lived in Gates Mills for 40 years and was a resident of Chardon for 5 years. Joan graduated from Beaumont High School in 1953 and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where she was also a member of the Prayer and Healing Ministry, Eucharistic minister, Women’s Prayer Group and Eucharistic Adoration. Joan greatly appreciated the fine arts and classical music; she was a wonderful pianist. Joan enjoyed spending time in nature, gardening and being outdoors. She will be remembered most as a joyful, helpful, and positive woman who had a gentle spirit. Joan was patient, kind, contemplative, and very prayerful. The matriarch of the family, Joan was devoted to her family with a deep faith. Joan’s family called her the “Rose Mother”. She will be dearly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial Monday, November 8, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church 401 North St., Chardon. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Joan at THE DeJOHN Funeral Home & Crematory of Chardon (formerly Ritondaro) 126 South St.  (Rt. 44, south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) SUNDAY 1-4 PM.
