Joan M. Rossi

Joan M. Rossi, age 76 entered eternal life August 6, 2017 at the Hospice of the Western Reserve after a brief illness. Joan was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 6, 1941, to the late Michael and Josephine (nee Kleinhenz) Koczan She graduated from St. Francis High School in 1959 and attended John Carroll University. Joan married her late husband Dominic on September 8, 1962 and they lived in Wickliffe before moving to Mayfield Heights in 1973. She worked as a school aid for St. Clare School for 25 years. Joan was a very active member of St. Clare Church where she oversaw BINGO and the church festival.

Joan is survived by her son Joseph Rossi (wife Pamela), daughter Ann
Rossi – Smerglia (husband Bruce); grandchildren Michael Rossi, Nicholas Rossi, Rebecca Rossi, Alex Smerglia and Amanda Smerglia; sister Theresa Lembach (husband Robert, M.D.); sister-in-law Pat Koczan; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Dominic who died May 23, 2016 and her brother Joseph Koczan.

Joan’s family will remember her as a very big Cleveland Indians fan who loved to socialize with her friends at Bob Evans and who was a care giver to all. Although she was feisty and intense she also was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Clare Catholic Church. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Joan at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and 91) THURSDAY 4-8 PM.
