Jean Smrekar

JEAN T. SMREKAR (nee Ristl) age 93, beloved wife for 71 years of Walter; loving mother of Barbara Britton (husband Terry), Janet O’Hara (husband Michael), Karen O’Brien (husband Terry) and the late Carol; devoted grandmother of Lt. Com. David Britton, U.S. Navy (Laura), Mark Britton, Colleen Weston (Scott), Catherine O’Hara, PFC Steven O’Brien, USMC and the late Capt. Christopher Britton, U.S. Army and great-grandmother of 4; cherished daughter of the late John and Marie (nee Bauer) Ristl; dearest sister of the late John Ristl (wife Nora), Walburga Smrekar (husband Clarence) and Margaret Novak (husband James, deceased); dear aunt and great-aunt of many.

Jean was born June 7, 1922 in Cleveland, OH and passed away on December 27, 2015 in Richmond Heights, where she has lived for the past 55 years.  She graduated from Jane Adams High School and worked as a sales clerk for Higbees at Severance.  Jean attended St. Paschal’s and was active in Adoration there.  She was an avid reader, but got most of her enjoyment in life from being a mother and grandmother.  Jean will be remembered for her determined, caring and loving nature.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jean’s memory to a charity of your choice.

Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, December 31, 2015, at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church at 10:30 AM. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jean at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) WEDNESDAY 4-7 PM.
