JEAN HARSHMAN NOTT, age 92, died peacefully on October 11, 2016 in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Beloved wife of the late CAPT Hugh Good Nott USN (ret); loving mother of Kathleen Nott Chimples (husband Dean) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Nancy Nott Shannon (husband Marty Langenberg)of Rockford, Illinois; devoted grandmother of Janet Chimples Kosteas (husband Vasilios), George C. Chimples (wife Allie), and Kate Shannon and dearest great-grandmother of Dimitrios V. and Constantine “Dean” George Kosteas; cherished daughter of the late Grace (nee Stoll) and Dr. Ralph Garling Harshman.

Mrs. Nott was born in Alliance, Ohio and was a long time resident of Newport, Rhode Island. She graduated from Bowling Green State University where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Before her marriage, she was a reporter for the Columbus Dispatch. Mrs. Nott was the quintessential Navy wife – a gracious hostess, with a keen intellect, a commitment to voluntarism, an adventurous spirit with a wonderful sense of humor. Her interests were many – needlework, books, gardening, and travel, especially to Hawaii.

She held a variety of non-profit positions, including Trinity Church Altar Guild, Vice President of the Rhode Island Girl Scouts, founder of the Festival of Trees, President of the Civic League, and Newport Garden Club member.

She was devoted to her family and many friends and will be dearly missed.
