Jean M. Jensen

Jean M. Jensen age 88, a long time resident of Chardon passed away suddenly at her home in May. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to her parents Frank and Bertha. Jean was an executive secretary for the Carling Brewing Company and later for University Hospitals Neurosurgery Department. She met and married Johan W.H. Jensen while working as a civilian employee of Army Ordnance at the Terminal Tower during WWII. He preceded her in death after 33 years of marriage. Jean found companionship and love in her retirement with A. Dewey Bond (formerly of Chesterland). They were married at the Red Maple Inn in Burton and shared ten wonderful years before Dewey’s death.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Johanna (Joseph) Jensen Santi of Tarzana, CA and step-children Philinda (Ben) Collins, Laurel (Ken) Ellzey, Carolyn (Steve) Bannister and Sylvia (Robert) Donovan; grandson Joseph J.J. Santi and 13 step-grandchildren. She loved her extended family of nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Gerow.

Jean was a very active retiree. She enjoyed many adventures and misadventures in NYC with her friend, Marilyn as they tried to explain to various cabdrivers where her daughter lived. She was a block away at the time. She volunteered as a secretary for the Geauga Historical Society for 30 years. She was a founding member of Peace Lutheran Church and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. Jean and Johan were active members of the Bass Lake Club during the 28 years they lived in Bass Lake Colony. Jean also was an avid reader and scratch golfer. She’d scratch her head, turn to her son-in-law and say, “Why do I play golf?!”

A Celebration of Life Service in Jean’s Memory, officiated by Pastor Curtis A. May, will be Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11 AM at THE DEJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY OF CHARDON (formerly Ritondaro) 126 SOUTH ST. (Rt. 44, south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square).
